1. Fundus Photography

Fundus photography allows capturing of detailed images of the back of the eye, specifically, retina, blood vessels & optic nerve head. The images obtained help ophthalmologists assess the health of the retina & optic nerve, detect abnormalities, and monitor eye conditions.

At Malpani Eye Hospitla we offer cutting edge Fundus photography services with help of iCare EIDON Ultrawide field Fundus Camera which provides TrueColor and Ultrawide field view upto 200 degrees allowing imaging of the central retina as well as the periphery. This guarantees increased image sharpness, better optical resolution, higher details and greater contrast that takes retinal diagnostics to the next level.

2. Fundus Fluorescein Angiography (FFA) :

Among the array of advanced services offered, Fundus Fluorescein Angiography (FFA) is a crucial diagnostic diagnostic tool for vascular disorders of retina.

FFA is used to gain detailed insights into the blood vessels & blood circulation in retina and choroid at the back of the eye & help to diagnose & manage various vascular & retinal disorders such as Diabetic Retinopathy, Vascular occlusions, Vascular tumors, Macular degenerations etc.

FFA involves injecting a fluorescent dye called sodium fluorescein into the patient’s blood stream. The retina is then illuminated with blue light. A specialized camera captures images of the fluorescent green light emitted by the dye as it circulates through the retinal blood vessels.

iCare EIDON FA is a top-end imaging system with Fluorescein Angiography capability for ultra-high resolution and Ultra Widefield images and videos. It provides a complete suite of imaging modality of unsurpassed image quality. It offers widefield imaging of Fundus Fluorescein Angiography up to 200 degrees as contrast to 45 degrees with normal fundus camera at the same time preserving the image quality, sharpness, and details, even in the periphery.

iCare EIDON FA also offers the added advantage of capturing a detailed ultra-high resolution Fluorescein angiography video recording which provides a realistic and dynamic view of retinal vasculature and circulation mechanisms that may be missed with static flash photography.

 

3. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

OCT is a state…managed.

It is a non-invasive imaging test similar to ultrasound but uses light instead of sound waves. It is used by ophthalmologists to create high-resolution, cross-sectional images of the retina allowing visualization of different layers of the retina. These images provide insights into the thickness and structure of retinal layers as well as optic nerve.

OCT helps ophthalmologists evaluate conditions affecting the retina, such as Age-Related macular degeneration (AMD), Diabetic macular edema (DME), Retinal Vein Occlusions (RVOs), Retinal surface abnormalities (ERM, Macular hole). It is also very useful to detect early Glaucomatous changes & Disc edema. Recently, OCT has been found to be useful in neurological conditions such as Multiple sclerosis.

 

4. Oct Angiography (OCTA):

Oct Angiography (OCTA) is an innovative non-invasive method for imaging blood vessels without the need for intravascular dyes. Unlike traditional angiography, which uses contrast agents, OCT-A relies on laser light reflectance from moving red blood cells.

It provides high-resolution images of the retina and choroid, revealing intricate vascular networks, making it a valuable tool in ophthalmology for diagnosing and monitoring various retinal vascular diseases.

Compared to traditional dye-based angiography techniques like fluorescein angiography and indocyanine green angiography, OCTA offers several advantages, including non-invasiveness, faster imaging acquisition, and the ability to visualize deeper vascular layers without dye leakage obscuring the view. These advantages make OCTA an increasingly important tool in the diagnosis and management of retinal & choroidal vascular diseases such Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), Diabetic retinopathy, Vascular occlusions.

 

5. Fundus Autofluorescence (FAF):

Fundus Autofluorescence (FAF) is a remarkable non-invasive imaging technique that has gained popularity in both research and clinical settings.

FAF is more than just another picture. It provides a metabolic map of the retina, giving us detailed insight to disease processes that may otherwise remain unseen. It allows us to manage a variety of conditions at earlier stages than ever before and gives us the chance to improve long-term visual outcomes for our patients.

Unlike fluorescein angiography, FAF does not require the injection of a fluorescein dye in order to image the retina, but rather utilizes the fluorescent properties of pigments (lipofuscin) within the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) to create an image. Since many retinal pathologies often lead to RPE dysfunction and an accumulation of lipofuscin, abnormal patterns of autofluorescence (AF) on FAF imaging can act as markers for retinal disease.

Currently FAF has clinical applications in a variety of retinal diseases, including  age-related macular degeneration, Central Serous Chorioretinopathy, Retinitis pigmentosa, Various Retinal dystrophies, Hydrochloroquine retinopathy and other retinal drug toxicities, etc.
